May 13:
Living a Life that Matters…
“Even if I am executed here and now,
I’ll rejoice in being an element in the offering of your faith that you make on
Christ’s altar, a part of your rejoicing. But turnabout’s fair play—you must
join me in my rejoicing. Whatever you do, don’t feel sorry for me.”
Philippians 2:17-18
Beginning in verses 17-18 thru the
end of chapter two, Paul shares three examples of sacrificial service.
Ah yes… of course. Today, on the day
I am feeling most weary, I am reading about sacrificial service. Real
self-sacrifice for the sake of the gospel. Sigh. I so needed to be
reminded that life is not all about me. I am blessed to have a full life… a job
outside of church… a family to raise… a husband to care for… friendships to
nurture… a church family to minister to… As a pastor’s wife, sometimes I find myself feeling
overwhelmed, under qualified & spiritually exhausted. It can be hard to
remember that while what I am called to do is not always easy, it does have eternal
value. & the spirit in which I go about following His plan for me is far more
reaching than the temporal weariness I feel today.
“A
sacrifice to be real must cost, must hurt, and must empty ourselves. Give
yourself fully to God. He will use you to accomplish great things on the
condition that you believe much more in his love than in your weakness.” - Mother Teresa
