Ah yes…
& now we get down to it.
PW fashion.
Fall Winter Parisian collection '12- Pastor's Wife |
Since this feels a little like revealing a deep, dark secret, I probably
should have written this post yesterday for my “one thing you might not know about this PW” piece. Anyway, here goes… I secretly
love fashion. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t have a real great sense of
fashion, I just really, really like finding fun, funky pieces & putting them
together.
When I first became a pastor’s wife, I thought my love affair with
fashion would have to be over. I did what I thought would be the right thing
& bought four shapeless dresses & a pair of ‘sensible’ shoes. I hated
their stinkin’ guts. To my credit (or my madness), I did try. I wore them for a
four week cycle & then let them collect dust in the back of my closet. I’m
not joking here. When I cleared out my closet a few years later, there was a
layer of dust on the top of those hangers.
It’s no surprise really. I am after all, a jeans girl. I wear them
everywhere.
To work with a scarf & blazer…
to run errands with a t-shirt
& tennies…
to dinner & concerts
& weddings with a sparkly tank top & heels…
& to church with a dressy
blouse or sweater.
Sorry to burst your churchy expectation bubble peeps. Fashion to me
is a little like an expression of who you are. It’s weird really. How a dress
can make me feel exposed & uncomfortable & how jeans can give me the
freedom & comfortability to just be me… not to mention it allows me to sit
on the floor in the nursery to play with the toddlers during Sunday School.
Besides, I truly believe beauty aka
fashion is in the eye of the beholder & if my body is covered as not to
cause my brother to stumble, who really cares right?
To me true beauty is found in the way I treat people. In the way I love
& show compassion. The way I encourage & build up. True beauty, is
found in the heart.
"Sometimes people
are beautiful.
Not in looks.
Not in what they say.
Just in what they are."

While preparing to write this I rifled through my closet looking for
my five favorite things. Here they are:
1.
Dark blue skinny jeans
from the Gap
2.
Black ‘dressy’ hooded sweatshirt
from the Green Dragon
3.
Black Frye boots
4.
Mr. Darcy t-shirt
5.
African necklace &
leather adoption bracelet
Yes I know that is technically six favorite things but it’s a known
fact that I am terrible with numbers… just go with it.
